BRD / Superscrieri Scholarships in education: six journalistic investigations which want to pass education to another grade

How well is Romanian education system prepared to identify and to react to the anxieties and depressions that a larger and larger number of children show? How do teachers and educators manage to make the school an aggressive medium, with direct or subtle pressures upon the pupils? Where is the breakdown of a system that pretends to offer a free education but has been changing over and over until out-of-school preparation became compulsory in order for the pupils to become students?

Trying to offer answers, six teams of journalists and photo-journalists/visual artists will document these stories in a detailed manner and will bring results in this autumn within the Superscrieri Scholarships, a journalistic action initiated by Friend for Friends Foundation and BRD Groupe Societe Generale.

“Among all the missions that we take responsibility for in order for the education to progress, we are aware that the support allowed to the quality journalism is an exercise of patience, but also of trust. Patience – because there is a need for many stories to be told, to be written, to be collected in order to change something. And trust – because, step by step, this initiative will gain results. Together with FFF we took the responsibility to build a proper frame for these journalists to add one story after another, stories that we more often live than explain. The stories from this year promise to bring us as close as possible to the truth, to the problems, but also to the solutions and good examples. Congratulations to the new scholarships-owner and good luck with your work”, said Flavia Popa, BRD General Secretary.
