BRD Issued More Than 140,000 Contactless Cards And Keeps Supporting This Technology

BRD-Groupe Société Générale issued more than 140.000 contactless cards on the Romanian market. The bank begun issuing contactless cards in 2010, using „MasterCard PayPass” technology. The acceptance network developed also and counts now more than 3,000 contactless-compatible terminals. Over the last 6 months, the value of transactions with contactless cards issued by BRD is up 60%.
After the launch of the cards based on the new technology, the bank added the new functionality to classic banking cards, continuing to implement contactless technology in the public transport or at bank automated machines.
BRD developed its own concept based on a technical platform certified by MasterCard as a unique model at European level. "BRD Transport" integrated solution was implemented in cities like Sibiu, Galaţi, Braşov and Arad and was granted several prizes by specialized Romanian publications.
Until April 20, BRD and MasterCard perform a campaign dedicated to contactless card users. To enter in this promotion, BRD MasterCard PayPass and Maestro PayPass card holders must perform transactions at POS, in Romania or abroad. Customers have twice more chances to win if they pay contactless.
Prizes are grated through a draw and consist in:
- 3 tourist packages for 2 persons (transport and 4* hotel)  on May 16 – 18, 2014 for Justin Timberlake’s concert in Olimpiisky Arena, Moscow, on May 17, 2014
- One of the 150 Gift Cards charged, each, with 500 lei
Contactless technology allows the performance of small value payments by simply approaching the contactless card to a reader. It is specific to quick small payments, PIN not being necessary for payments under 100 RON.
